Give Gold a Go

Posted 27th Apr 2011

Gold has a bit of a bad reputation – imagine a gold watch, and the likelihood is that the first thing you think of is a loose-fitting knock-off Datejust hanging from the wrist of Peckham’s finest sole trader. It doesn’t have to be like that. Slim dress watches, worn with a smart suit, are an obvious source of class, but that isn’t the limits of gold on a man’s wrist. Many sports watches, in gold or bi-metal guises, work well when worn casually (but not loose!) and can be picked up for not much more than their steel equivalents, and in some odd cases, even less. Gold is well worth a try, and with current high gold prices doesn’t lose much if any money if bought pre-owned, so there’s no reason why you can’t give it a go if you fancy it.

Personally, I am strongly opposed to yellow gold, but only because I find it incredibly unattractive. Give me stainless steel, silver, white gold, or platinum – but please, spare me the yellow gold.

It’s just personal taste, but it’s not for me.

    Cheers.

I have to agree gold is rubbish, however the only gold watch allowed is a mint 1803, silver dial on a genuine brown croc strap with 18ct buckle. Has to have baton hands.
