Breitling for Bentley GMT V8

The Bentley Continental has been Bentley’s tour-de-force of luxury, technology and sport in recent years, it’s 6.0 litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine a snorting 552bhp power-house that could throw the five metre, two tonne land-yacht from zero to 100mph in less than eleven seconds, all the while cosseting the driver in complete, unadulterated opulence.
It’s a sign of the times then that even the mighty Bentley has to bow down to over five years of economic gloom and environmental concern by cutting its engine size down by a third. Will the Breitling for Bentley, the car’s wrist-worn counterpart, suffer the same neutering?
At 49mm the Breitling for Bentley GMT V8 is still a big brute, and the polished finish mixed with the knurled bezel is every bit as lavish as the Continental’s interior. The red inner bezel, marked with the cities of the world, is coloured the same as the Continental’s badge (the only Bentley to receive this treatment), and so too is the tip of the GMT and second hand. The time-zones can be cycled through using the rotating bezel and the pusher on the left-hand side of the case.
In these austere times, the Bentley may have been deprived of several cylinders and fifty horse power in the name of economy (in both senses of the word), but the Breitling built for it is still every bit as good.
