Ever Thought You Could Make it as a Watchmaker?
written by A.Morgan - 16th Sep 2011

Something that Omega very proudly like to broadcast is the innovative and impressive co-axial escapement. Now, you would be forgiven for assuming that Omega’s in-house team of scientists and watchmakers worked round the clock to invent the co-axial escapement, but you would be wrong. Located on a sleepy island off the coast of England called the Isle of Man, watchmaker Dr George Daniels worked day and night to produce the biggest innovation in mechanical watchmaking for decades, using nothing but his hands and a few simple tools with which to make it.
Following Dr Daniels’ book, ‘Watchmaking,’ a twenty-two year old by the name of Roger W. Smith hand built his own tourbillon pocket watch, which he brought to Dr Daniels for his opinion. So impressed was Dr Daniels that he hired Smith to work with him on his utterly exquisite and unique timepieces, and now Smith himself makes his own selection of handbuilt British watches.
Given his history and training, any watch fan would be champing at the bit to witness Smith at work, but imagine being able to get a job with him? Well, imagine no longer, because that opportunity has arrived. Not got any experience? Doesn’t matter – you will be trained from the ground up to build some of the finest timepieces ever made. All the details you need to apply for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity are below. What are you waiting for?
