Romain Jerome’s Vision of the Future (That’s Also a Pen)
written by A.Morgan - 24th Oct 2011

Love them or hate them, there’s no denying that Romain Jerome have imagination in abundance.
We don’t normally write about things that aren’t watch related, but since Romain Jerome have made their fair share of watches, and because this is awesome, we decided to make an exception. During the height of the space race, the tricky issue of making notes in space (pencils were too dangerous because of broken lead shorting electronics) gave Paul Fisher the inspiration to make the Space Pen; a pen that could write on anything, in any condition.
I imagine Romain Jerome found that interpretation of ‘space pen’ to be rather boring, because now, after the USA announced that they would be significantly reducing their space exploration budget starting with the decommissioning of the Space Shuttle, the MoonFighter has been revealed. Shaped like the spaceships that adorned the covers of 1970’s sci-fi novels, the MoonFighter is pure air-brushed space-art nostalgia, squeezed into a compact cylindrical writing implement.
The pen itself is cradled by the two ‘wings’ when not in use, and even has a cockpit with a sprinkle of moon dust in it. Such is the level of detail and craftsmanship that each of the forty-eight rivets is painstakingly applied by hand. The business end comes as either a titanium nib or a rollerball, and the finishes come in Heavy Metal (silver), Black Metal (black) or Vintage (our favourite, a battle-worn silver/grey). I think this is going to be a winner.
If you’re now in that retro sci-fi mood, then why not pilot a very similar spaceship in the retro-classic Galaga. Use the Space Bar and Arrow Keys to play:
